Pete,
Where in the first five books does the bible speak of
eternal fire, and escaping it by saying a prayer
before dying? Or do you mean the fundamentalists
are reading that in to something that says
something else?
The eternal roasting stuff is something that was added by some Christian
groups after the fact. I never saw it in the Bible, and I've been through it
many times. Forgiveness at the last moment has a precedent in the story of
the thieves on the cross next to Jesus. But the roasting forever idea has no
biblical precedent. Every time I've heard someone come up with what they
believe to be a biblical basis for it, they've had to stitch together
several things from different parts of the old and new testaments and then
hope nobody's paying too much attention to it.
Hi Kris!
What about the thief who continued to mock Jesus?
Regards,
Pete
