Yes, you are right. I did miss Ed's main point. Sorry about that.

Even though the hotel bar was under deconstruction, I should have asked someone to bring in drinks. We could have gathered in the common area downstairs where we had the Meet and Greet. By contract, I couldn't have brought in drinks or food, but someone else could have.

Next time!

I think Ed is talking about how many of the conference hotels had a central
bar that was an informal meeting place. People would go out to eat with
different groups, but before and after, they would just sit down and
introduce themselves or listen to a conversation and jump right in. It was
always great to be able to do that, particularly if Ken or YAG or any of the
Fox Team happened to be in there, or even the legends like Rick Strahl.
The problem with the dinners is that you can never get everyone at the same
table, it's too noisy to carry on a discussion, and it just doesn't achieve
the same results as having a meeting place in the hotel.

I forgot to give a plug to the restaurants across the street. Definitely within walking distance but most of them are far too small for a group of 20+. A couple had bars but are also small. A couple had outdoor seating, but again small places.

Kim and I were talking that if we do this again next year, we'd have a place in mind ahead of time, with printed maps/directions, and phone numbers of local attendees that could help out if attendees get turned around. Live and learn, and learn, and learn.
