Foxpro's roots are in end-user development; the Command Window hosted virtually everything the user did. Writing programs was something "tricky" that COBOL programmers did. Very few people saw the means so a lot of crap was traversed in order to get the magic results. When I was hiring, years ago, I had to specifically mention in my requests that I did not want people who had ONLY Command Window experience. It's kind of like the difference between using Word to type a letter and using Word and VBA to create a document system. If you are looking for someone who can wring the crap out of Word and make it do things people dream about, you are not going to be interested in some typist who just got laid off but "knows" Word. The other factor is SMUG. There are an awful lot of insecure people out there and the higher they get, the more insecure they become. And that is how it should be.
