You're correct; they were invented in the UK at GSK's Central Labs. Despite having sales for that one drug of £700,000,000 last year, in the UK they cost £6.65 per prescription irrespective of the quantity or the drug dispensed.
GSK are a British company and generated £9,800,000,000 profit in the last 6 months.
