Oh I did. I knew after pressing Send I should have shared my related
story: back in 1999, I was working about 50 hr weeks already for maybe
$30k. The person who took over my old position in the company left, and
they wanted me to take over my old duties (in addition to what I was
already doing in my new position). They wanted me to add 10-15 hours
extra every week. They brought this up at the department meeting in
front of everyone. I laughed and said "Sure! Just pay me for an
additional 10-15 hours/week and I'll do it!" Well, you would have
thought I was throwing out racial/ethnic/sexist slurs or something with
the way that everyone looked at me. I mean, these people were looking
at me like "HOW DARE YOU ASK FOR MORE MONEY FOR THAT?!?" I couldn't
believe it. I went back to my desk and created a very simple
spreadsheet showing them that in just one month's time, I would have
worked 1-1.5 weeks for free. Let's go on the low side with just 10 hrs
extra per week. That's giving the company 1 free week of my time every
month. Then, the spreadsheet just carried it out, showing them that in
one year, I WOULD HAVE WORKED 3 MONTHS FOR FREE.

Only then did some of them get it. The others, well, let's just say
ignorance was bliss for them.

Um, NO....NFW am I working for free at those levels of abuse. NFW!

I left that job for one that paid $14K more and only worked me 37.5
hrs/week. Plus the benefits (including 401k dollar for dollar match up
to 6%) were better. You can imagine how happy I was!!!! :-)
