Tracy,

Have had same problem with all versions of Win 7. Here's what I've found
so far (and it has helped, but not fixed the problem.)

Windows 7 dropping share connections:

       http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;297684

Adjust two registry settings.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters\autodisconnect
Set to the maximum value of ffffff hex. (The default value will be f hex.)

The other setting probably does not exist, so add it.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Service\lanmanworkstation\parameters\KeepConn
Create a Dword 32 key and set this value to the max of 65535 decimal.

Also, try opening a command window (as admin) and type
       net config server /autodisconnect:-1
