I haven't found anything on google yet. Try using an unzip program to see if that does anything.

I would bet a peanut that they are "ZippedPDF" files. That is done to prevent spam blockers from gagging. Essentially, it's a PDF file inside a ZIP file (PDFs are already compressed, so space savings isn't the issue.) That's my guess.
