I tend to agree with your attitude - I like to control the apps on my
development machine, too - but is there a reason you want or need to
lock down to a version? In my experience, 4.x was an "Ooopsie!" but 5
and 6 are looking pretty good. Mozilla has issues, but the add-ons and
3rd-party tools are the best, imho, with Chrome coming up fast.

Or, you could go to Tools, Options, Advanced, Update and uncheck all
three checkboxes for "Automatically check for updates to:" and select
the radio button for "When updates to FireFox are found, (x) As me
what I want to do."

Will that do it for you?
