I have no helpful information...just that I'm still seeing random error
108's ("file in use by another user") from my app that is running on 60
systems...a mix of Win2k, WinXP, and Win7Pro. But the errors are always
on Win7Pro systems.

I've even moved the Win7Pro systems physically...swapping the Win7
machines with WinXP machines (the end users hate the Win7 systems and
are happy to get an XP box) and the problem goes with the Win7 machine.

Have also installed new NICs on the Win7 machines. No change. All
systems running same Avast anti-virus and have very similar hardware
configurations.

Win2k systems NEVER throw Error 108.
WinXP systems have thrown so few you could count them on one hand (over
the last 6 months).
I get several per day from the Win7Pro machines.

I eliminated "exclusive" use of DBFs several years ago. My backend
server is Samba on Linux. So far, no corruption issues, just file access
weirdness.

All that to say that I think MSoft made some drastic and significant
changes to network caching in Vista and 7. I base this on several error
reports I found from Googling, and the link to the Alaska Software that
Alan posted, and gut feeling.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your post...but I think your issue and what
Tracy was referring to earlier, and my 108's are related....Win7.

Got a client getting this somewhat frequently now from his Win7 client.
I remotely connected and configured his Norton 360 to ignore all
DBF/CDX/FPT files as well as the application folder on his box and the
network share (Z: drive ), all with the "include subfolders" option
checked. Yet he still keeps getting this error. His IT person has said
that she checked to make sure the write-caching was disabled.

I'm asking for additional ideas?

Thanks,
--Mike
