The take away should run in any environment.

I am still a GUID fan.  I declare what they are instead of wait on the
data tier to deliver it back to me.  They are just a pointer and I can
make a func() to return the usable columns of the row if I need to see
that I have the proper information.

You can sequentially assign them in a fast performing environment.

Most important point is having a backup system that needs to go online
and not SCREW UP the numbering 1231, 1232, 1233 when the fix is
applied and the prod system comes back on line.
