I was once part of a team of contractors working at a place and we were
about a month away from going live w/ phase two of the project. Phase
one saved that company over a MILLION dollars a month, and they were
paying us probably about $25k total per month... do the math...

Phase two would have saved them another TWO MILLION per month...
(auditing medical claims for workers comp).

BUT the new Big Boss for IT was a mainframe guy and couldn't be bothered
w/ having all of us FoxPro guys running around, so pulled the plug on
the whole thing w/o notice.

I'll never forget that day... our team leader brought all of us into a
conference room, saying the gig was over, gather your stuff and get
out... as we were leaving the room we got word that the first gulf war
had started about an hour before... surreal day...
