Thanks Ed. The Cisco interface doesn't provide any options for shelling into the OS, and there is some confusion (in my mind) whether this is a Linksys gadget with the Cisco label on it, or a "real" Cisco router that wandered into the bargain basement! If it's a true Cisco product, I would expect it to be running IOS. (If it's a Linksys, it's likely running LInux.)
I do have some hesitation rooting the box...thinking more along the lines of returning it. The more I think about it, the more I think this subnet limitation is simple marketing crap. They want you to spend $500+ to handle more than 256 devices, and that's just goofy. I'm no network expert, but is there any way to manually modify the configuration files? I.e., can you shell into the router and manually set the netmask? -- Ed Leafe [excessive quoting removed by server] _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
