There is MAPI and then there is well MAPI. For example MS was getting fed up with people being able to use the normal mapi files that worked in 98 so when XP came out they 'Made it better and more compatible with Exchange'. Thus there MAPI integration no longer worked with anything else and you had to load the MAPI module onto XP to run GroupWise and L.Notes (originally separately now they have it as part of the install).

This is why I have a wrapper for the GW routines as then you dont have to care which version of MAPI you faced in that environment.

Life would be boring if a standard was, well standard.
