Hopefully the NF tag is OK for you folks. This is probably closer to OT but it is somewhat technical in nature.
Do a search on Carrier IQ. It's basically a rootkit on Andriod and iPhones. This announcement came out on Dec 1 (Thurs). Note my use of term rootkit: software that hides its presence and allows privileged access to system data/function. It's been verified that Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T carriers put this on their phones. I'll let you all go look at the info for yourself instead of blabbing about it a lot. But if you're as pissed off about it as I am, call your carrier immediately and tell them to get it off. And keep your eyes open for class action lawsuits to join in. For the MS-heads out there, you can gloat - Carrier IQ is not on Windows phones. Of course, MS wouldn't need a 3rd party app to spy on you - they'd just build it in like they do in the PC OS. Here is one site where I started reading about Carrier IQ: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/so-theres-a-rootkit-hidden-in-millions-of-cellphones/16708?tag=nl.e539 -Charlie _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
