I'm using T-Mobiles pay as you go plan.  $100 gets you 1000 minutes and a
year of coverage.  If you haven't used all your minutes at the end of the
year you can pay $10 and have coverage for another year.  This seems to
be the best deal for someone who watches pennies and doesn't use a cell
phone very much.
