No, just more momentary chaos. GM wouldn't have disappeared. Companies would have bought the various profitable components, like defense for example. The new owners of each part would have had to negotiate more reasonable salaries and benefits for the Auto Workers. The result would have been stronger companies in positions to grow and create jobs.
