But it is illustrative of the True Believer: the greatest enemy is not someone from the other side. The True Believer's worst enemy is someone from his own side who is not as Pure and True as he, therefore a Traitor to the Cause. Brooks is a conservative who believes that the other side has at least some good points, and are generally good people. Really bad to fanatics.
