>*Catch22* " it may ask you for a password to remove yourself from the >domain. The password should be that of an administrator account on the >domain."
You may need the password for Windows XP and later workstations. The password is to allow communication between the workstation and the domain server to tell the server the workstation is going bye-bye. That's only critical if you care if the domain server is able to keep its bookkeeping straight. Whether or not the workstation communicates with the server, removing it from the domain will cause the workstation to cease to expect to find the domain. If users want the features of a Windows domain without using a Windows server, I would suggest you look into ClearOS. It's a version of CentOS with built-in domain server capability via SAMBA, and it includes a mail and web server. It's not quite as self-contained as a Windows server OS but the work-arounds are easy, and it works very, very well.
