I don't care if it's not refreshed, I'm concerned with the tag damage that we're experiencing now

What I usually do is put the data you want in the list box but add the record number on the end so you can't see it. When they select a line you can then extract the record number and go straight to it. This won't give you any issues with refreshing as they are only looking at data in a list. If they keep the list box open for any length of time you need to be aware that the data won't be refreshed. Not found that to be a problem as I make the picking form modal so they can't go away and do something else in the system.
