James, Does changing your select to this work? SELECT top 5 hip_no, amount, name FROM stnhorse WHERE amount <> 0 AND SUBSTR(hip_no,1,1) <> "R" ORDER BY hip_no desc I would suspect the parser is having trouble with the keyword name and top being side by side.
