When I was in the military (during the Vietnam era) it was impossible
for two brothers to serve together and if one of them became or was the
sole surviving son it was impossible to serve in any combat operation.
This was true of the Army but not the Air Force. I know so because my
buddy gave up an Army career (18 years) in order to join the Air Force
and avenge his brother's death in Vietnam combat.

I guess that "sole surviving son" policy is gone because our young men
and women are getting picked off almost as fast as we can ship them over
there.
