This is why I accept way less money working for myself, I no longer have the
tolerance to not throttle morons.

Subject: RE: [NF] Business Notebook Recommendations

Ditto.   Or in my case, how my company runs me.  :(   Long story, but I've been
programming on my personal notebook for the company I work for since late last
year.   My "Development Server" did not have enough HD space to store a copy of
our production database (80GB), nor does my work-provided desktop.   Good
practice?   No.    A new Development Server has been sitting in a box for over
6 months; I even offered to set it up but there it sits...

Thanks to all those who added their thoughts and recommendations on this topic!

Update: After 2 hours of meetings on the topic and selecting different options
and vendors (Lenovo, Samsung, Dell and HP were the finalists), the whole thing
has been set aside - just one day after we are told they want to get them right
away and to decide quickly.   Apparently the thought now is that since the
company is going to virtual desktops somewhere around year end or early next
year that we really don't need powerful notebook computers.    'Not happy' is
putting it mildly.

Lou

I'd suggest it might depend on how you run your business. I've done two
on-sites in the past week, and spent the weekend in Maine hacking on laptops
with 33 other nerds. Having my full development environment with me...
priceless.
