Someone broke in to Steve Jobs house last month and stole a bunch of
stuff, including some Apple computers.
The police caught the guy when he connected the computer(s) to the
Internet and the system connected back to the Apple Mothership for some
updates.

(I'm out of my league here regarding Apple, so the above techy
description may be inaccurate.)

The news article makes it sound like because the computer connected with
the Apple Mother, the police were able to go to the exact location where
the computer was operating and arrest the guy.

If true, does that make anyone else wonder about the risk of owning an
Apple device? Or am I being naive and the same could happen with a
Windows box? Was it GPS? There were probably some forensics involved
that are not disclosed to the average Joe on the street...something like
the MAC address of his NIC?

Not sure I want the Police being able to call up MSoft (or Google) to
obtain the Lat and Long for my computer, or cell phone. (Not doing
anything illegal, but the Good Guys may not always be the ones running
things...)

Mike
