Not in the least. First of all, all my Mac products have the ability for this kind of functionality, if you wish. I have it turned on or my wife's iPhone as she has a habit of losing phones.
As far as the Jobs' hardware, the thief didn't know whose house he was hitting until he found some mail with the Jobs name on it. I'm fairly sure that they (Apple) would have been very interested should any of that reconnect to the Internet.
