My software is too optimized, I have a gazillion index tags, which gives it more moving parts to fail. Throwing hardware at something isn't a bad idea, but sometimes you can't.

My finger would point at the query processing speed, not the actual flow of bits over the wire. But I agree it sounds fishy.
