Normans are from Normandie, north of France. They probably came from
Scandinavia in prior ages, but they also probably came from Africa
before that, as we all do. So we are either all Africans or we stop the
buck wherever it is convenient to our point. In this case, Normandie is
part of France and that is where I choose to stop digging.
Let's take for example well known King Richard LionHeart, his family was
Plantagenet, a french name. Plantagenet comes from planta genista, latin
for yellow broom flower, which the counts of *Anjou* wore as an emblem
on their helmets. The origins of the Plantagenet come from the Angevins
(but the same dynasty). The first Plantagenet King was Henry II who
owned vast lands in Anjou near Tours (which I think lies in.....
France). The third part of the Plantagenet dynasty are the houses of
Lancaster and York.
Of course, later came the Tudors from Wales, the Stuarts from Scotland,
the house of Hanover from Germany and finally the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha also
from Germany (who changed their name to Windsor so the Brits wouldn't
know who was really shafting them).
So you see, the English have been owned by the French, the Welsh, the
Scotts and the Germans.
