Awesome and well-thought-out summary of current combustion options. However,

in California we won't be able to count on the natural gas lines, as a large
earthquake would certainly break many in-house pipes (from the meter) and I'm 
sure
PG&E would shut off distribution pipelines to avoid explosion hazards such that 
we
saw in San Mateo a few years back.
