Virgil,
1. Use Port forwarding on your router to connect the apropriate ports (80
for Web, 21 for FTP) direct to the Linux box
2. Set up a Free DNS Name (No-Ip.com or DNS2Go.com) 

...and you should be in. On most routers you can actually declare one
machine to be a DMZ which will simply rout all port calls through the router
but be sure to protect the Linux box with a firewall if you do that.

Ok, it took most of the day but I have fedora 5 running and finally figured
out where to turn on apache and I can now see my page on the linux machine.

How do I fix it where I can see the linux site from my laptop via the
