While Intel is moving toward ARM CPUs and making them a commodity, ARM Holdings is releasing (has released?) 64-bit designs as it moves upmarket. Not that Intel CEO Otellini just took "early retirement" as a result of board dissatisfaction that he wasn't moving ARMward fast enough. Has something to do with market and economics, I'd guess.

It's the x86 that's vanishing, and none too soon, and the "full-size" motherboard along with the internal DVD drive and the flash BIOS. But not the desktop. The PC will continue to evolve for those who use a computer to do work, while the proles watch old movies on their tablets.

BTW, read that review of Win 8.  It matches my sentiments exactly.
