Actually the country isn't split right down the
middle.  Something like 85% of Americans believe in
God. Of those an overwhelming number are Christians.

An overwhelming number don't believe that their
daughter should be able to have her baby sucked out of
her without their consent.

An overwhelming number of people don't believe the
Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional.

I just think the majority of voters vote like they
always voted.  This isn't same Democratic party it
once was.
