I was able to run it from the command line, find out there the <censored> <censored> <censored> <censored> sock file is located, and reconfigured PHP to look for it. So far, a qualified success: my system runs. Well, sort of. It "times out" instantly. I assume that it is a rights issue again for the directory where PHP is storing the session information. I think I can deal with that, but if history is any guide...
