Well, it returned *something* but I have *no* idea what that means (of
course).

mysql_table(5)           - Postfix MySQL client configuration
slapd-ndb(5)             - MySQL NDB backend to slapd

In the meanwhile, I reinstalled MySQL, and finally it conforms to something
recognizable. I was able to run it from the command line, find out there
the <censored> <censored> <censored> <censored> sock file is located, and
reconfigured PHP to look for it.

So far, a qualified success: my system runs. Well, sort of. It "times out"
instantly. I assume that it is a rights issue again for the directory where
PHP is storing the session information. I think I can deal with that, but
if history is any guide...
