Hi,
a couple of threads recently have discussed suitable migration languages for FP programmers. By coincidence the latest Verity Stob on The Register led me to look at a keynote on TypeScript (1) (if you don't know Verity Stob or The Register, you should (2)).

TypeScript (3) is a superset of JavaScript which is a dynamically typed language like classic FP. It adds a type system that informs the IDE (hints, autocomplete etc.) but is stripped out by the 'compiler'. It seems to take this much further than the later versions of VFP did* but gives an indication of what could have been possible. /* I haven't followed the later offerings of Sedna so I could be wrong on that./ I think I've posted before on my opinion of js - and how much I liked "JavaScript: The Good Parts" by Douglas Crockford - well TypeScript seems to pick that up and run with it. The keynote is maybe a bit hard going unless you're a js whiz (or better than me anyway). Pity it's all gold-plating a turd, just think what could have been done starting with a stuffed fox instead <g>!
