I'm assuming that your NAS has media streaming server built in otherwise
you'll need to add a third party program to it.

I use a dedicated boxee box only needs an HDMI port and a network
connection. Don't try using wireless if you're trying to stream movies, the
judder and frame drops will be painful. Go as fast as you can, I have
replaced my 100mb switch with Gigabit.

I'm not sure about the new Boxee TV device... however my TV (Samsung), Blu
Ray player (Panasonic) and Amp (Denon) all have media streaming clients
built in... Perfect justification to get that 60" Samsung ..... <G>

Subject: [NF] Streaming media through home entertainment hdmi or ...

So, how do I get all the movies and music I have stored on my NAS backup to
stream through my home entertainment system? There's 1 hdmi and numerous rca
inputs available and the NAS has a USB port so it can be used wired or
wirelessly ...

I've looked at a few of the mini pc's, but they all plug directly into the
tv. I'm looking for something that plugs into the av system so we can play
music and get the full effect from the movies.

... or would a dedicated laptop running iTunes make better sense?

AND .... I got the brackets and NF right? Did I? That'd be my 1st 2 pts in
20yrs or so and a batting average of .100. I declare myself free agent
before the Bombers pick me up for the playoffs.
