It hardly matters what the package says about lumens. I bought a number of
new bulbs in which the package says will replace 75-watt bulbs for the same
lumens. That is a crock. I cannot read a magazine or book under these curly
bulbs. The total output of a bulb may be the same lumens but I think the
light is dissipated in too many directions for the new bulbs.

The concept of watts as a measure of luminescence never really made sense.
Why not get a real indication of output of the device instead of the
consumption of power? So the term Lumens should now be the only way we
speak about how well a bulb illuminates and not how much $$$ it costs me
for that same brightness.
Much like paint for a wall that is white, there are a few different shades
of white.
