Hey folks,

I'm hoping to get a little input on this topic - I know it's a rather
general one - and probably one that HAS been discussed in the past. But,
since I have been on the list for a few years now - I think it was QUITE a
while ago that it was last discussed.

We are working on a new system here - I'm essentially spearheading the
conversion from an old DOS like system (White text on Blue background)
albeit running under Windows - to a true Windows graphical screen designed
system. I mentioned this several times recently - including my Screen
Hacking (Initial conversion of all screens from PRG's to a Form via Screen
Hacking and reading the old PRG's).

Now my boss gets on my case today. He claims that the system should have
screens that are sizable. Like - if people are working on BIG Monitors -
that the screens should be expandable to fill the screen. Of course, doing
Data entry like that - means all fields & labels must scale dynamically -
and move dynamically. Needless to say - he wants an ENTIRE System converted
in MINIMAL time - so, something fancy like that - I told him its just NOT
VIABLE!

But - I'd like the opinion of others here. Since I'm on a Wide screen
monitor - that's 19 inch diagonal - and currently set to 1366x768 - I could
design a Form at like 1280x700 - or something like that.

Now - I tried to tell my boss that many lower level employees in many
companies even still today - will have Smaller screens than the boss. But,
my boss & his bro. - both believe monitors are Cheap - and no reason why
everyone shouldn't have bigger monitors these days.

So - what do you all think? Design screen sizes at something like
1280x700??? And, what if some users at one of our client companies have
smaller screens? They will Totally have their database system screens get
chopped off - and I think that would SUCK!

Maybe making dynamic screens is viable - but, just not so if it takes a TON
more work to implement - since he's already bragging to clients that we are
working on a new system - making it sound like we could deliver one in a
reasonable time. (But - alas - what is reasonable? 1 Yr.? 2Yr's???)

Any input appreciate here.

Thanks in Advance,

-K-
