I doubt it - even in €3.55 bottom end mouse from the online supplier I normally use is optical. They can probably make them cheaper with lasers than the mechanical ball system now. I used to hate visiting customer sites and having to clean the sh!te off mouse rollers with a paperclip just so I could use someone's PC. Some of them would barely move the pointer, amazing what people will endure.
