I am about to use the services of a software house to build a virtual shop and they use PHP and MySQL. I remember some talk here about using Maria, why is that ? Tks, E.
MariaDB is a fork of MySQL so that you had an option rather than be only left with MySQL under Oracle's supervision of it.
I use MariaDB here at the day gig for some stuff and it's great. Totally free of course too. Everything I wrote when I was using the Sun MySQL backend still works great in MariaDB. I don't think I've had to change a thing.
