Maybe counting up to and over 50 isn't in her skill set and she was too
embarrassed to mention it. End users - can't live with 'em, can't live with 'em
as I always say...

Subject: [NF] oh those whacky end users....

We take turns eating the turd sandwich i.e. answering helpdesk calls and this
is my week...

Yesterday I get a call from a gal who's panties are in a wad because the
"Problem Summary" field on our ticket system won't accept the text she entered.
It has helper text there saying "50 chars max". I tell her that at first glance
it looks kinda long (being pretty familiar with that entry screen)... She is
adamant that the text she entered is CLEARLY not 50 chars... nope... no way, no
how...

Heaven forbid she should actually COUNT the characters???

So I remote onto her desktop, confirm the message that the text is too long...
I copy the text, open Notepad, paste it in, and start counting.... one, two,
three, four... all the way up to 58...

She says I'm WRONG and that it isn't 58 characters... WTF?

(By this time, I could have fixed the problem she was reporting in the first
place....)

So on a line below her text, I put "1234567890" 6 times, and show her that
indeed her text is 58 characters long....

Nope - not good enough proof for her... double WTF?? Is this her idea of a joke
or something??

So I said fine, I fire up MS Access, create a table with a field 50 chars, and
one with 60 chars (and show her that indeed it does not fit into the 50 char
field), copy her text into each, create a form with full navigation and a Close
button, add a button called "Count the characters in the text", create a new
Click Method, write the code to count the letters and return a message box with
"Your string length is
58 characters long".

She says "well you didn't have to be a smartass about it" and hangs up on me...
