I wasn't blaming Filezilla for FTPs shortcomings, Alan. :-) If you go look at some of the threads on this topic the developers have clearly (no pun intended) indicated that security is the user's problem, and there are no plans to add any kind of encryption or other useful obfuscation to the site manager settings, which are stored in plain text (XML IIRC) in a known location. Knowing the nature of open source development, I'm sure this is probably some deep philosophical statement on the inherently insecure nature of FTP. If you don't save any creds then you don't have to worry about this particular design choice in Filezilla. If you do use the site manager and continue to use Filezilla, you need to be aware that there are active exploits out there which will suck out all your saved creds and then do what they will with them.

But absolutely, don't transmit secure info over vanilla FTP. _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://mail.leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://mail.leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/DF1EEF11E586A64FB54A97F22A8BD04422842642A3@ACKBWDDQH1.artfact.local ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
