... oh and to finish, I'm due to upgrade and I'll be staying with Apple... Just
a pity they don't do a 17" Macbook any more.

Subject: RE: [NF] Recommendations for Windows 8 laptop (or MacBook Air?)

Personally I'd get a Retina Macbook pro with 16GB and run Windows 8 as a VM
using VMWare Fusion. I have this setup on a i5 13" Macbook which is now just
over 18 months old and I think that the trackpad on the Mac actually works
better than the touchscreen on any laptop I have ever used. Especially In
native mode, the trackpad is simply a joy to use with all the new multi-finger
gestures and considering I bought it as simply a standby machine, I rarely if
ever use my Dell i7 laptop at all (any buyers .. lol?).

I hate to admit it, and thought I never would, but once you've used a Macbook
then the speed and facilities simply make any standard Windows only laptop look
ordinary. OK, you pay a premium, but it is worth it and the screen resolutions
are far better than any Windows laptop to the stage that I would say using the
13" is a better experience and easier to use than a 15" Windows machine. The
only mistake I made was not getting the 15" one at the outset.

The only future drawback for Mac's seems to be the way Apple are going the way
of not allowing memory upgrades as all the memory is on board. So, I bought the
machine with 4Gb but to run VM's it was in fact unworkable and 16GB allows me
to run 3-4 VM's concurrently with little or no speed degradation. If you buy a
current Macbook air then the memory you start with is what you are stuck with -
so you need to make your choice the right one at the outset.

Oh yes, and I now use native OSX more and more as time goes on... it just
works, is so stable and boots up so quickly ... and it's fun programming it as
well!

Better stay with Window$. Save the money to buy a tablet.
