So, it's a local hardware or software problem. What changed? I'd look for
disk problems, disk full, temp drives full, etc. System logs might give
some clues.

He is doing a defrag and disk cleanup and then a cold boot. He does not remember the last time he shut off this computer. It is possible it is up to a year.

I will pass along the report.
