As they say: when in doubt - add more RAM...

This is out of my area of expertise, but isn't this 'other' computer
in effect acting as a 'file server' in that it is serving up the data
to the other machine? And when it comes to servers, RAM and disk speed
(besides bandwidth) are the low hanging fruit for better performance?

My take on this would be if it's a reasonably small table or at least
compares in size to the other tables in the system, I'd monitor it and
see what happens. Otherwise - when in doubt - add RAM...
