As I understand you, your first app works fine. When you create a new database (dbc + tables) for the next company, it doesn't.

It sounds to me like copying the data structures didn't make a complete set of linkages. Remember, the DBC has links to the DBFs, but the DBFs also have backward links to their DBC. In the same way, the CDX knows which DBF it is the index for. I think there's an excellent chance that the way these were copied left the links to the old Database in some places. That's why you get the error when opening the file.

The recommendation from Dave Crozier:
   Use <old Table>
   Copy to <tablename> database <database Name> with cdx
     Where tablename and database name are fully qualified paths
sounds like the right way to go.
