Hi Folks,

We can and do use Thunderbird, but in our environment, in which people
regularly use several different email accounts, the interface can be
confusing for some people. Also, it can be pretty slow while doing its
various internal processing things such as compacting, reindexing, and
processing junk mail. And it does not handle very large mailboxes well
at all.
We use thunderbird here and pretty happy with it. I'm still using
version 2.0.0.24 which does everything I want and the interface is much
simpler than later versions. Setup is also a lot easier. The stupid
setup "Wizard" they put on later versions really is a joke. Maybe you
could consider an older version.
I have some archived messages that I just move to a subfolder when I get
to 15-20k records. The mailbox file size is usually under 2gb and we
don't have any problems with them. We have noticed problems when the
mailbox gets to about 4gb or more. We are constantly trying to get
people to file messages from their inbox and sent folders (to
subfolders) and compact them but it is a hard process. People here also
want to keep everything forever, which is fine but they have to be filed
away in subfolders. Some people here have 50Gb of emails! With regular
compacting not had any problems.
This should be a fun opportunity for people to argue about the "best"
email client. :)
We had a look round a while ago but didn't see anything better that did
all we wanted.
