On my 7" Galaxy that I've had just over a year and use daily, I can still easily get a full day out of it and then it is down to about 20% charge so I don't have a problem with battery life with GPS & wireless live. The other cheaper androids at work can manage about 6 hours with GPS & Wireless on.
As for Software updates the Galazy is great, it just uploads them and always seems to keep up just as my S3 phone does.... Al, you should have got a better model!
