I knew about about:config but not the memory option.

It would seem like Java is grabbing memory like it's a free sale in a 
whorehouse! After an initial Firefox load it grabs 10Gig but would then proceed 
to do nothing with it. Running the Garbage collect option then frees it up so 
it's obviously connected.

Think I will re-install it then look again.

I am on the same setup in work - no issues.

Type about:memory into the Firefox address field and see if any extensions are 
using too much.
