I have two cousins, one is a serious Rails developer, the other runs a
business with a software product that is done on Rails. The former
wouldn't touch anything other than a MacBook and Vim, the latter tried
using Ubuntu for Rails dev but pretty quickly came back to the MacBook.
It seems to be very tied to the Mac. I with think a lot of the
technologies like Rails, the MacBook seems de riguer. I remember
watching a Servoy conference video (Servoy being basically a stack of
well-known open source stuff) and every single person in the room had a
MacBook.
