Thanks all for your help.  Having others agree that I have not overlooked
something helps me believe that I am making progress toward really
understanding how things are supposed to work.

Laurie's work around caught the Increment consideration which is not
critical in my use.  The SpinnerLowValue is a consideration that is
important in my case.  I'm guessing there may be considerations that we
haven't thought of.  It's too bad we need to duplicate the logic that is
already built into the spinner in order to have it work properly!
