Hey - -
I don't even have to add a OT or NF tag. Weird.
I have a very-long-time client (1998) which is having difficulties. The
system essentially syncs two databases, one at the client site, one at a
third-party vendor. (Why it isn't real-time isn't an issue here; I'm
visiting with them is a little while to discuss real-timing it.)
There are two interesting processes, one which takes records updated
locally and creates export files for the 3rd party vendor. The other wipes
the database clean, imports everything from the 3rd party's database, and
reinstates changes that have happened since the export. The former is a
relatively easy process; the latter, huge.
The problem is: in both cases, the processes run just fine, but when it is
time to write a file at the end, and update a table the system craps out.
Facts:
- This is a VFP 6 or 7 application, distributed with an EXE (they are
verifying which version)
- The EXE is on the network.
==> (Would it help to have them run it locally?)
- Running on XP
- The only error message I can't figure out is "Not enough memory for file
map." It is apparently (from Fox.Wikis & M$ site) an API error. As a
result, I told him to start the import or export after a reboot.
==> Anything more to this error? I've never seen it before.
- The last time it also threw our old friend the C5. Upgrading the
runtimes to 9 would help that, but I don't know if that has happened more
than that once.
- Y'all, especially Ed, saved my Tookus on this one many years ago when it
wouldn't run on a Novell network. I had to build in some pauses in
execution to allow the Novell network to close file handles. I also
implemented Ed's SetMemory program, which provided the key to getting it to
run. I can't find the call to that program (PJX Search seems to be missing
on this computer).
==> This things sounds like a memory allocation issue to me. Comments,
Ideas?
Thanks - - -
