Glad you got out of your hole!

I find it hard to believe that Windows 8 was released. This is just one
example. You order software from the app store and it blows away your
profile because you have to change to a Windows account. Even though I
recovered I had to reconfigure server printers, Thunderbird, and even
VFP came up with that web thing it used to have. Their motto used to be
"Where do you want to go to today?" The answer today was Hell. It
wasn't too bad though because I live in Phoenix. ;^)

I don't find it hard to believe at all. Hey, I'm currently on my second hour of wasted time just trying to install Windows 8.1 on my virtual machine. First, I went to Staples to purchase it, but they were out. So then I thought "okay, I'll try downloading it". So I ponied up my $200 for Windows 8.1 Pro, and then clicked the "download" link. I thought I'd be getting a ISO.

So Safari on my Mac downloaded the EXE, which I didn't even try running. I then spent 30 minutes looking around online for acquiring the ISO, and found that I could get it from cracker sites around the world. Uh, no thanks.

So I fired up my Windows Vista VM, logged into my Microsoft account, downloaded the EXE to that system, and ran it. I got an unhelpful message about "Windows 8.1 isn't designed to run on machines running Windows Vista".

ALL I WANT IS TO BURN THE FRICK'N DVD YOU IDIOTS!

So, I fired up my Windows 7 32-bit VM, logged into my Microsoft account, downloaded the EXE to that system, and ran it. It proceeded to download the ISO. That was 30 minutes ago, bit torrent would have been much faster. And I have a bad feeling that when it's done I'm going to find it only downloaded the 32-bit version since I'm running a 32-bit VM. If that happens, I guess I'll have to install Windows 7-64 just for the privilege of downloading the 64-bit version of Windows 8. I'll be surprised if that isn't true, at this point.

Microsoft has no clue that they are making our lives harder for no reason. I can't believe they are a successful company.

Paul
